Small Craft Water Safety Training: Kayaking + Canoeing
Course description: This training is intended for individuals with youth organizations, such as the American Camp Association and Girl Scouts of the USA. Participants should be skilled in handling canoes and kayaks prior to taking this course. This course includes a core lesson of basic water rescue knowledge and skills needed for self rescue and to assist others and information on small craft accident prevention, trip planning, supervision and emergency preparation and response. This course involves in water skills needed to respond to a small craft emergency.
-Float or tread water for 1 minute without a lifejacket or PFD (personal flotation device
-Swim any stroke for 25 yards without a lifejacket or PFD
-Swim any stroke for 25 yards while wearing a lifejacket or PFD
-Demonstrate basic boat handling skills for the specific components by paddling and/or kayaking a set course
Course length: 4 hours
-100% attendance and participation
-Successfully complete all skills outlined in the course
-Pass written exams with a minimum score of 80% or better on each section.
Certificate Validity: 3 years
