| Description: Explore two sanctuaries of Costa Rica: the Highlands – including Volcan Arenal and, the Southern Pacific Lowlands – including phenomenal surf breaks in Playa Hermosa. We will pick you up at the Juan Santamaria airport and take you to dinner at our favorite restaurant in San Jose. Check-in at locally owned and operated hotel. In the morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast, fresh juice, and hot Costa Rican coffee in preparation for our roadtrip. We begin our travels north – stopping in the key artisan town of Sarchi. Dine at a local posada for lunch and spend the afternoon shopping for hand carved wooden utensils, bowls, and plates – along with other handicrafts such as masks and jewelry – which celebrate the diverse cultures and traditions of Costa Rica. Our route ends at the base of Volcan Arenal – an active Volcano. The energy from the volcano goes unsurpassed. There, we will soak in natural thermal hot springs; soar through the rainforest on a canopy tour; hike in the cloudforest near Volcan Arenal; and enjoy a twilight safari aboard your whitewater raft or go whitewater rafting on the Rio Sarapiqui - *do both for an additional $100!
After two nights and two days in the cooler climates, we will journey to the beach. Breathtaking picturesque views of both mountains and ocean appear as we slowly descend into the Southern Pacific Lowlands. Enjoy a well deserved celebratory cocktail(s) and supper at one of the best sunset spots in all of Costa Rica on Sunday evening. Next, you will spend three days honing your surfing skills in Playa Hermosa with local phenom, Maria Del Mar and her staff. Maria is costarricense and grew up surfing the waves of Costa Rica - her knowledge of local breaks and the history of the area is unmatched. Surf sessions and lessons are in accordance to your level of surfing experience and skill - pura vida! During your off times, you have the option to hike, attend yoga classes, horseback ride, siesta, shop, relax on the beach, receive a massage, and pedicure – or, study one on one with Ariadna, our Spanish Instructor (*for additional fee). On Thursday, you will be transported back to the Juan Santamaria Airport for your return flight home. Que lastima! |
