Basic Water Rescue
Description: The purpose of the American Red Cross Basic Water Rescue course is to provide individuals, such as public safety personnel, aquatic fitness instructors, camp counselors and childcare staff, with information and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course will also prepare individuals for aquatic emergencies by teaching them how to protect themselves while assisting others. Come prepared to get wet! This course is required for organizations that want to bring groups of children or adults, for recreational swimming, to the City of Austin and private pools.
Certification: American Red Cross Basic Water Rescue valid for 3 years.
Prerequisites: None
Course Requirements: Payment of the course fee is not a guarantee of certification. Basic To be eligible for course certification you must:
• Be present for the entire course.
• Prove proficiency and complete all required skills.
• Pass a multiple choice written exam at 80% or higher.
Course Length: 4 hours
Note: This is NOT -nor is this a substitute for - a Lifeguarding course. American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is a 32 hour class.
